Following a comprehensive tender process, Powell was awarded the contract for the fit out of Fusion Point 2 offices in Wales. This was a large-scale CAT B fit out project in Cardiff City Centre. The contract included works to the ground floor and second floor of the three-storey building, with high occupancy levels of 180-220 staff per floor.

 

the brief.

Working in conjunction with the project team of Building Consultants TB+A and Architects Perkins and Wills, the fit-out design was to be contemporary and open, with better breakout and meeting facilities. The client required a fast turnaround and high-quality finish. The overall design scheme also needed to achieve BREEAM accreditation.

the works.

Powell delivered the following:

  • large open plan office space
  • meeting areas, conference facilities and cellular offices
  • bespoke tea point stations, canteen and break out area
  • new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
  • glass partitioning and glazing systems from Optima to achieve 42-45dB
  • integration of Squiggle Glass magnetic write-on wall
  • high quality acoustic fabric panels from Kvadrat
  • new flooring from Milliken and Quadrant
  • multi sensor lighting control
  • underfloor power through grommets
  • building management system (BMS) to control and monitor the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment
  • independent management of client direct services

 

the results.

By phasing the scope of the project and developing a strong programme, a high-quality finish has been achieved for Fusion Point 2 in Cardiff. The large open plan working area has been upgraded to reflect a modern environment for staff and is complemented by diverse meeting rooms and facilities, allowing for different ways of working.
